Hello Patriot Families,
As we embrace October, there are many important academic and other school updates. We remind families that report cards went home on Friday, October 9th.
This is a busy time of year for postsecondary planning. Kathy Bernstein is our Career & College Promise (CCP) Coordinator and looks forward to supporting students in registration. Carteret Community College registration for Spring and Summer 2027 classes opens on October 19. Ms. Bernstein sent all 10-12 graders an email with important information on October 6.
College Application Week is coming October 19-23! This week gives students an opportunity to take action on their postsecondary plans with support from their schools and community partners, including waived application fees at participating schools. There will be a College Fair at the Civic Center on October 19, and our Counselors will host a Financial Aid night on October 26.
Attention parents and guardians of 10th grade students: An important message regarding your student's Career Development Plan, or CDP, has been sent through Infinite Campus. Please check your Infinite Campus Parent Portal to review this information. All 10th grade students must review and update their Career Development Plan before promotion to 11th grade. Thank you for taking a few minutes to review this important information with your student.
Parents and students, please mark your calendars for underclassmen Picture Day on October 14th. Eligible Seniors who have completed two levels of CTE coursework will have WorkKeys testing in October. Earn your career readiness certificate and boost your graduation profile and resume. We also invite you to celebrate National School Lunch Week and on Friday we show support for all impacted by Breast Cancer with our Pink Out Day.
It is another busy week for Patriot Athletics: Come support our Volleyball team as we host games our Conference Tournament starting Monday. Cross Country competes in a Conference meet at Croatan on Wednesday. On Thursday, Soccer travels to Richlands while JV Football hosts Richlands. Varsity Football travels to Richlands on Friday while Tennis continues playoff competition. Come out and support our Patriots!

Bus updates for the week
WCHS Earth & Environmental Science students put the properties of water to the test with a hands-on investigation of surface tension.
Students tested different substances to determine which had the highest surface tension, using observation and experimentation to connect classroom concepts to what they could see happening right in front of them.
Hands-on labs like this give our Patriots the chance to ask questions, test ideas, and learn science by doing.

Ms. Clark’s students stepped into the world of global trade with a hands-on simulation! Students were divided into six groups, each representing a different country, and used colored paper and shapes as materials and resources to meet production goals.
The challenge? Learning firsthand that countries don’t always have everything they need. Trade, collaboration, and resource management matter. A great way to turn economics from a concept into an experience!

From our Counseling Department: As teachers close Term 1 gradebooks, we would like to remind families that report cards will go home on Friday, October 9th. Students and families, please take this time to review class progress and make adjustments for success in Term 2. If you need help in study support or any obstacles for learning please reach out to your counselor or teacher for help. Our PSAT will be administered on Tuesday of this week.

Our Arts are also performing with excellence; we celebrate one of our students earning an invitation to the prestigious NC Honors Chorus. We will host a Chorus Concert on Thursday night. The Pride of West Carteret Marching Patriots competed at the Northside High School Band competition in Jacksonville NC on Saturday and placed 2nd in Drum Major, 1st in Percussion, 1st in Colorguard, 1st in Music, 1st in General Effect, and placed 1st Overall in class 4A. They also placed 1st for the entire day naming them Grand Champions Overall. Our Band travels to Myrtle Beach this upcoming weekend to continue to showcase their hard work and talent.

A little kindness can travel a long way.
WCHS Key Club recently painted rocks for Maddie’s Rock Garden, a special project supporting 6-year-old Madison Lang of Kansas, who is undergoing cancer treatment. Madison loves rocks and painting, and her family created a garden filled with colorful rocks and encouraging messages to bring her some extra joy. People from across the country have been adding to the garden, which has already grown to hundreds of rocks.
Our Key Club Patriots were happy to add some West Carteret love to Maddie’s collection. We are proud of our students for taking the time to brighten someone else’s day and for showing how even a small act of kindness can make a difference.

Mrs. Lancaster’s students are taking a closer look at the U.S. Constitution—not just what it says, but why the words matter.
Students are:
📜 Analyzing the diction and rhetoric of the Preamble
🏛️ Exploring the purpose and function of the three branches of government
⚖️ Matching real-life scenarios to six different amendments
💬 Using textual evidence, paraphrasing, and discussion to connect the Constitution to their own lives
The goal? Understanding how the language of the Constitution communicates the purposes, powers, and principles of our government—and why those principles still matter today.
We love seeing our Patriots engage with complex texts and make meaningful connections!

Hello Patriot Families,
Last week we celebrated some wonderful elements to our total school program. This included our National Arts in Education week, Athletic Administrator day, and National Instructional Technology Facilitator day. These folks add to our school community by helping to grow the whole student and providing opportunities for every Patriot to make connections and have a sense of belonging.
We are excited for our Homecoming festivities this week! Our Homecoming Dance is on Saturday September 26 from 7:00-10:00. Our SGA has organized Spirit Week days for students too; Monday is Pajama Day, Tuesday is Tropical Day, Wednesday is Disney Day, Thursday is Surfers vs Bikers, and Friday is Neon Everything.
There are so many chances to support our athletes this Homecoming week; Tennis hosts on Monday and Thursday, Soccer is home on Tuesday and Thursday, and Volleyball is also at home on Wednesday. Volleyball travels on Tuesday and Thursday, along with JV Football, and Cross Country has meets on Wednesday and Saturday. We look forward to hosting our Homecoming game on Friday night, come on out and see our Homecoming Court!
We appreciate your attention to the established procedures for safe arrival and dismissal. This includes traffic flow, check-out procedures, and our bus riders continuing to stay updated with school communications.
